TRANSITION AND TRAUMA

since the man is born, it is forced to cross by several educational stages that are going to help it in the future, introducing itself in the labor field, but in the period of transition of these stages, specially in the transition from high school to the university, exist certain aspects that can cause a strong impression to any student therefore, it can affect the academic yield in students. Some of the main aspects that affect the student lives are the forms of evaluation and the different ways of study used at these two different levels, due to this situation, students have to know that there are changes they can go through in the stage of transition between high school and the university with the purpose of having a better adaptation to their new student life style.
According to Gutiérrez (2004) in the first levels of education, it is thought that knowledge is such an unchangeable thing and what books say is the only truth students need to know, in addition it is tended to evaluate the repetition of concepts and there are no questions about where the knowledge comes from and what its importance is. It is a common situation that students in high school normally memorize, the subject's theory in order to only approve an exam and later they forget every thing they have memorized, this is not a positive point when they have to analyse different theories and besides that, to state a position based on arguments like papers, historical references etc, it means that they must justify their point of view with real evidences.
Here is presented another clear example of the differences between both levels of education, it was given by Gocsik (2005): “One of the first things you'll discover as a college student is that writing in college is different from writing in high school. Certainly a lot of what your high school writing teachers taught you will be useful to you as you approach writing in college”. Indeed, writing is an educational strategy to evaluate, that should be applied in high school, but unfortunately that is not a reality in Venezuela, as a result, when venezuelan students get into the university they do not know how to write not even an essay, that fact becomes in a big shock for them that can even cause university abandonment, a good solution for this current problem could be to offer introductory courses that can help students to overcome those academic obstacles previously mentioned.
Teixeira. A, chief of counseling and developmental human department in Universidad Católica Andrés Bello quoted by Tabuas. M, said that in high school pupils do not pay enough attention to their responsibilities and even though they approve the subjects, but at the university they need to make a different effort because at college they have to cover more requirements and they need to be more independent at searching knowledge and in the same position professors at college are more like kind of guides, it means that professors are not the only ones that knows everything, students have to take place in the process of apprenticeship and the develop of knowledge, at this stage they has to become in real researchers of their specialty.
In simpler terms, at the beginning of their university career the students usually underestimate the pressure that this environment can causes them, and this is one of the principal reason that can produce them a shock when they reach this stage so, the best thing to avoid this trauma is to look for the suitable aid which would be into the hands of a university counsellor in other words, students need to have orientation before the reach the university level with the intention that they can have a good adaptation in the university
